I so today I am finishing up my boards for Final Year Project.
The theme of the Family Room centers around the core values of family time. Comfort, Togetherness, and Unity were at the center of the following designs. The use of space and furniture to create these core values were used at every decision. The end goal of the design was to allow families to connect and feel at peace in the room.
One of, if not the most important issues that arose whilst designing the room was ensuring not only the comfort but the safety of the elderly whilst using the furniture provided in the room. To combat this issue each piece of furniture that provided a person with the opportunity to sit down has included additional supports as well as reinforced barriers on the sides to allow the users the ability to get up of the furniture with ease.
The next issue design faced was ensuring that the layout of the room allowed the users to move freely and without obstruction. All pieces of furniture used within the room are functional, meaning that there is no uneasy space used up in the room. This was to ensure that there was sufficient space freed up for the elderly to move around the room.
The two issues the design faced were safety and circulation. To ensure that both issues were tackled furniture with adequate support was placed in carefully selected locations leaving a clear path circulation for the users.
